Spiritual Fulfillment

What is it about possessions that get us hooked? Nice jewelry, new shoes, clothes, cars, etc, you could walk into any store and look at the various choices of every product that you could want. Every year there's a new iPhone or a new trend that's "in". Our society moves so fast that most of us can't handle the change. Especially during this season of Covid, things couldn't get any harder. With depression and suicide rates rising, more and more people are turning to drugs, alcohol, smoking, and even pornography to fill the emptiness that they feel inside.

Unfortunately, these substances only provide temporary happiness and comfort that will only leave them even emptier than they were before. In times like these, it's important to find our fulfillment and comfort in God, he is our only true source of joy and fulfillment. Psalm 107:9 says, "For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things." I love that the verse says that he "satisfies the longing soul", as humans we long to be loved, cared for, and known. God loves us because he created us, he knows the number of hairs on our heads, he created the entire universe, and still knows our name.

Growing up in a pastor's family came with a lot of challenges. Since I was a little girl I grew up with this pressure to maintain an image that the church congregation would approve of, which also meant hanging out with the right people. Making the right friends when your younger is hard because there was always somebody better to be friends with, I was never the first choice for any of my friends and because of this, I became a lonely person. I was never the rebellious type, nor did I turn to substances to help myself to "feel better" but I did find myself picking up my phone instead of my Bible and I still find myself doing that a lot even now. However, throughout the years, I've realized that there is not one thing on this earth that can satisfy me more than my heavenly father.

I don't know how you're feeling or what you're going through, but I can tell you that God wants to rescue you from your pain, addiction, or loneliness, and fill you with his love and peace. "He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because He delights in me." 2 Samuel 22:20
